A rival to Hollywood's
cinematic palaces, the neo- Greek and Egyptian, the Alexander Theatre has
served as a beacon for civic, theater, charitable and music events for over
half a century. The expansive concourse, balcony and stage have been
lovingly restored by an adoptive boosters group, the Alex Film Society. -- WEBSITE-TO-GO!

Again,
the telephone number for the theater is incorrect - it should read
8l8-243-7700. Also, validated parking is at the new Orange Street Garage -
one block west.

There
is always something going on at the Alex. It is the home of the Gay Men's
Chorus, the L.A. Chamber Orchestra, the Glendale Symphony, the Alex Film Society.
The theater seats approximately 1450 people although the upper few rows in
the balcony are not conducive to viewing anything on the stage. The theater
was originally built as a movie/vaudeville house in 1925 and the pitch of
the seating in the balcony has not been adjusted for stage performances. It
is a wonderful theater.
