The Tuna Club Fishing's Valhalla: the ones that didn't get away.

User Rating:
The
Tuna Club, a private club on the National Registry of Historic Places, is a
monument to the ones that didn't get away. This exclusive club has
played host to such notable and varied personalities as Sir Winston
Churchill, Gen. George S. Patton, Charlie Chaplin and Bing Crosby. These
are people who took fishing seriously. Famed author Zane Grey made Avalon
his home specifically for the fishing here and ultimately abandoned it
because of a dispute over his son's disqualified catch. The original Tuna
Club structure was destroyed by a storm in 1915 and rebuilt the following
year. The club is credited with developing international standards for the
sport of fishing and establishing rules for sportsmanship that have been
adopted by other clubs around the world. While not open to the public, the
Tuna Club is worth a visit if you can wrangle an invitation from a member.
